On May 28 we celebrate Day of parks in Bulgaria. It is settled in 1999 by the Ministry of environment and waters. National and nature parks are proclaimed with the aim to protect areas with significant biological, aesthetic and cultural value. Protected areas in Bulgaria cover 4,95 % of the whole territory. The average percentage in the world is around 5,19 %.
There are 3 National parks and 11 Nature parks in Bulgaria. They are National park Pirin, National park Rila, National park Tsentralen Balkan, Nature park Belasitza, Nature park Balgarka, Nature park Vitosha, Nature park Vrachanski balkan, Nature park Zlatni pjasatsi, Nature park Persina, Nature park Rilski manastir, Nature park Russenski lom, Nature park Sinite kamani, Nature park Stranja, Nature park Shumensko plato.
